Prognstic Factors of Early Gastric Cancer

Abstract
The records of 102 patients with histopathologically proven early gastric cancer of the resected stomach were reviewed at Jungang Gil Hopspital over the 7 years period, January, 1987 to December, 1993 to find the prognostic factors in
clinicopathological features of early gastrc cancer and the mode of recurrence.
@ES The results were as follows.
@EN 1) The rate of early gastric cancer in all gastric cancer wa 12.27%.
2) the mode of recurrence in 5 patients (4,90%) of recurrent cancer include 2 cases of hepatic metastasis, 1 case of hepatic and distant lymph node metastasis, and 2 cases of bony metastasis. The cause of death in 4 patients(3.92%) include 2
cases
of
recurrent cancer and 2 cases of non-cancerous lesions.
3) The overall 5-year survival rate was 95.52%. The rate of the 5-year survival rate of the mucosal and submucosal cancer were 98.28%, 91.81%, and those of the lymph node metastasis and non-metastasis group were 81.82%, 97.62%.
4) We found that the depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis were the important prognostic factors in early gastic cancer. According to sour results we can suggest that more meticulous attention of the important prognostic factors during
pre-and
postoperative period postoperative period and regular long-term follow-up to find the recurrence at their early stage ar eessential. To reduce the high mortality due to gastric cancer the proportion of early gastric cnacer should be increased by
intensive diagnostic work up of symptomatic patients and possible mass screening of asymptomatic people and the prognosis of early gastric cancer should be improved.
